Our Legacy
For more than a century, Alessi Bakeries has been part of Tampa’s history, serving generations of families with authentic recipes, fresh-baked breads, handcrafted pastries and traditions passed down through four generations.
The Alessi story began in 1912, when Nicolo Alessi founded the bakery on Cherry Street after immigrating from Italy. In those early years, fresh Cuban and Italian breads were delivered throughout Tampa by horse and wagon, helping Alessi Bakery become a neighborhood favorite.
Nicolo’s son, John Alessi, carried the tradition forward and became especially known for his exceptional cake decorating and personalized wedding cakes. Many of the recipes perfected by the family are still enjoyed by Tampa families today.
The next generation, led by Phil Alessi, expanded the family business beyond the neighborhood bakery, developing a large-scale manufacturing operation and bringing Alessi products to customers across the country.
Today, fourth-generation owner Phil Alessi Jr. continues the family legacy, honoring more than a century of tradition while leading Alessi into its next chapter at the new Alessi Bakeries & Food Market in Tampa.
